Note: sometimes you need to register the serial number when installing the 360 studio.

Power on your camera, swipe down to access the Shortcut menu, then go to [Settings] > [Camera Info] to view the serial number. Via the Insta360 app: Connect your camera to your phone via the Insta360 app. Enter the app Settings, then find [Camera Information] to view your camera's serial number.

Files

.lrv  & .insv files

Due to the high bitrate of 5.7K 360 video, two high-resolution VID files and one LRV (low resolution video) file will be generated and stored separately during recording.

The naming rule is

VID_year/month/ day_time_00 OR 10_video serial number

(e.g. one recording would generate two files, VID_20200101_123000_00_001 and VID_20200101_123000_10_001).

The LRV video is low resolution video, mainly used to aid previewing and AI-powered computer vision analysis for editing and reframing on the app.

When a file is bullet time, then there’s only one file.

Motion ND

Motion ND is a feature in the Insta360 app that allows you to create a smooth and cinematic effect for videos shot with high shutter speed in bright daylight. It simulates the motion blur that you would get with an ND filter, but without the need for any additional equipment. It is especially suitable for shots in the forward direction while riding or driving

Insta Source Files on Google Drive

You can actually play a .insv file from Google Drive without downloading it. I can’t do that on my Mac (you can only see the first frame of the video when selecting the second of the two .insv files) so that’s a good preview option before downloading the source file for editing.

Other Notes

When you double click a .insv to open it in Insta360 studio, it doesn’t matter which of the two you open, the program will open both.

If a file is not a bullet time file but only one file exists (rather than the normal 2 files per shoot), you can’t open the file for editing — the software will throw an error. I’ve seen this happen before where a client will upload the source files but the second of the two files is missing for some reason.
