Gar’s Video Marketing Gear

IPhone, External Mic, Smartphone Mount & Tripod

This is my go to for the best video conversation capture. I like the mic plugged in vs the wireless because you don’t have to attach anything to the interviewee and you don’t have to worry about mics being charged. You do have to get close to the person but getting close and face-to-face makes the interview better anyways. As long as you’re looking them in the eyes (so they don’t think about the phone) and you’re smiling, listening and letting them know they are bing heard.

Try to start the interview by making them laugh or smile.

The Shure MV88+ Microphone attached to the Ulanzi Iron Man Tripod Smartphone Mount

One of the few Smartphone mounts that works well for vertical video. The Sure Mic plugs into an IPhone or Android and it’s studio grade sound capture.

Note: I don’t use the Shure tripod shown in the pic because of the next accessary

Ulanzi MT-52 Flexible Tripod

I screw the Ulanzi Ironman Tripod into the Ulanzi tripod which also includes ways to mount other tools like a mini light.

The arms squeeze in quickly making the phone and mic easy to hold during an interview and then place down easily anywhere.

Shure Recording App

It’s free and you don’t have to use it — your phone will use the mic through your regular phone video app — but, it gives you more control over the mic when you capture the interview through their video recording app.

Descript.com Video/Audio Editing

One final note, everything captured with the gear above is run through and edited via the video/audio software called Descript.com. The Studio Sound alone is worth the $12 to $24 per month fee for this browser based software marvel. We’ve cleaned up sound with this that seemed impossibly noisy.
