How I feel chasing code bugs

I’m trying to figure out how a very common and simple Javascript function is not doing what it’s supposed to and it’s making me feel like this.

This Animation

I collect animated GIFs and I’ve had this for years. I only ever bring it out when I’m beating my head against my keyboard trying to figure out a stubborn bug in some code I’m working with.

Today is that day. This month actually as I’ve been struggling with this bug for weeks. I was going to send it to the client to share the best way to describe how this particular issue is treating me when I thought, why not add sound to it.

Searching EpidemicSound.com for “Flesh” sounds, I got every kind of variety you could ever need and just laid in various versions of “Flesh Chop”, “Flesh Rip”, “Flesh Hit”, “Flesh Impact” and “Flesh Stab”. Add to that aggressive keyboard typing and “Scream Male 59” and that takes care of some quick and easy sound design.

For the music, given it’s Halloween season, why not dig into some of the early Scooby Doo music. That music, if you’ll recall was the same batch of stock music segments used repeatedly for every show. They were designed to work with anything — and it really does seem written for this segment.

I did have to loop a portion of the center of this segment to get the timing to match the length of the gif animation.

What do you think?

That animated gif thumbnail is grotesquely hypnotic.
