I made a TikTok for my daughter

It’s my daughter’s birthday today and she has been instrumental in helping me get into making TikToks or short videos.

In the past, like many folks, I’ve posted a collage of funny pics from when she was little but I make TikToks now! So naturally, I decided to make a video slideshow.

What music should I use?

Looking through the pics I had collected, Richard Dreyfuss’s “here’s to the crazy ones” came to mind and I thought yes! I’ll put that behind the slideshow — similar to how many TikToks use original music.

Then I thought — “I’ve got a nice mic. Maybe I can recreate this iconic vocal delivery”.

Almost immediately, I found the instrumental from the commercial and upon finding the script, I was amazed to see that it was only 100 words for the 60 second version.

I practiced a few times, matching the timing and emphases of Richard Dreyfuss and then recorded my version in one take. I dropped in the photos of my daughter and then added the subtitles.

It took me about 30 minutes from start to finish and I believe it’s a great representation of how easy it is to re-imagine new content ideas from the classics.

What the original and then my version and let me know what you think.

Here's to the crazy ones.

The misfits.

The rebels.

The troublemakers.

The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently.

They're not fond of rules.

And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.

Because they change things.

They push the human race forward.

While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
